After several days of shock in Parma following the events of September 11, we moved on to Florence for some much-needed diversion. Though the sympathetic notes taped to shop windows on the Ponte Vecchio were constant reminders of the tragedy, the smorgasbord of sights in the capital city of the Renaissance quickly took us back in time, far away from the rawness of current events.
