Travel Journals Prague:
Pivo, Prosim!
This
photo journal by Ellen Kamilakis contains both photos and prose. All photography
was taken by the author, and all prose was written by the author. Click

I lived there for over a month while I attended classes part-time at Charles University. Mmmmm, fiction writing with Stuart Dybek. I lived in the suburb of Dejvicka, at the end of the Green Line. My stay was a life changing event for myself--not only because I met many wonderful people, but also because I learned what it was like to take such immense beauty for granted. To walk into Old Town Square at night and not be breathless from the sight of the Tyn Church. Late night cab rides to the Diplomat hotel that took me through winding, hilly streets. The Czech people, so unassuming and so full of integrity. These photographs reflect my need to document my entire existence there. All total, I brought home 288 photographs. Anything that I feared I would forget got recorded on film. Living there satisfied my desperation for something historical, something concrete. And yes, I plan to go back ASAP.
